Quebec-Rail Speed and Mile Posts




Those Speed and Mile Posts are based on those that can be seen on Quebec Railroads and elsewhere.

Speed Posts:


Names and use:
1 Que_SM_PerSpeed_Post                - Will show the Permanent speed that applies to Passenger and Freight (Note the B below the base for Both)
2 Que_SM_PerSpeedS_Post              -
Will show the
Permanent Passenger speed (Note the P below the base for Passenger)
3 Que_SM_PerLRC_Speed_Sign       - Will show the Permanent LRC Passenger speed (Note this is a Sign No Post)
                                                       To be used with 1 2 4 or 5.
                                                      
- Also Note that the LRC speed will not operate in Train Simulator.
4 Que_SM_RedSpeed_Post               - Will show the Reduce speed that applies to Passenger and Freight (Note the B below the base for Both)
5 Que_SM_RedSpeedS_Post             -
Will show the
Reduce Passenger speed (Note the P below the base for Passenger)
6 Que_SM_RedLRC_Speed_Sign      - Will show the Reduce LRC Passenger speed (Note this is a Sign No Post)
                                                       To be used with 1 2 4 or 5.

7 Que_SM_PerRedSpeedS_Freight    - Used to show the Freight speed on the following posts: 2 and 5   (Note the F below the base for Freight)

8  Que_SM_WarnRedSpeed_Post     - If selected in "Speed Limits" class, will apply a speed
(Note that the speed will be below the base not visible)
                                                       - If selected in "Track Objects" class, will not apply a speed.
9  Que_SM_ResSpeed_Post              - If selected in "Speed Limits" class, will apply a speed (Note that the speed will be below the base not visible)
                                                       - If selected in "Track Objects" class, will not apply a speed.

10 Que_SM_RestrSpeed_Posts         - The beginning of the Restriction Speed.
                                                      - Available and viewed only in activity when defined with activity editor.

11 Que_SM_EndRestrSpeed_Posts   - The end of the Restriction Speed.
                                                      - Available and viewed only in activity when defined with activity editor.

Mile Posts name and use:


NN             Que_SM_NN_MilePostLeft               - 2 numbers Mile post Left.
NN             Que_SM_NN_MilePostRight             - 2 numbers Mile post Right.

NNN          Que_SM_NNN_MilePostLeft             - 3 numbers Mile post Left.
NNN          Que_SM_NNN_MilePostRight           - 3 numbers Mile post Right.

NNNN        Que_SM_NNNN_MilePostLeft          - 4 numbers Mile post Left.
NNNN        Que_SM_NNNN_MilePostRight        - 4 numbers Mile post Right.

NN.NN       Que_SM_NN_NN_MilePostLeft       - 2 numbers .2 digits Mile post Left.
NN.NN       Que_SM_NN_NN_MilePostRight      - 2 numbers .2 digits Mile post Right.

NNN.NN    Que_SM_NNN_NN_MilePostLeft     - 3 numbers .2 digits Mile post Left.
NNN.NN    Que_SM_NNN_NN_MilePostRight    - 3 numbers .2 digits Mile post Right.

How to place Quebec Posts:

The first thing to do is make a Backup of your route ( in case of problem) .

I will show you how to place Quebec Speed Posts as they are more difficult to place than mile posts.

Example:

Let's take the
2 Que_SM_PerSpeedS_Post.

Suppose we want to put this sign on this berm:


Press F2 Key or click on the Select Object Tool to be in select mode.
Hint: Click on the berm, it will make it transparent (easy to put the sign or any other object on it)


Press the More button of the Placement window to select the speed post.
Click on the second speed post (the one with the speed for the passenger)
Hint: Use the Show Thumbnails to see the posts.
Press OK  when selected.


Press the F5 key or click on the Place Object Tool.
See How easy it is to place the post even with a berm.
Press the left mouse where you want to place the post (Note: The X must be on the track)


The speed post is now in the center of the identification losange.


Press the F3 key or click on the Move Object Tool.
Press the left mouse button and drag the post where you want it to be.
You can raise the post, by using the up arrow on the num keypad, untill you see the red line near the post.
Don't rotate the post at this stage.


Click on the Right mouse button. It will open this window.


Be carefull with the position X, there might probably be a hidden minus sign on the left of the number.
Verify by clicking on the X position box and pressing on the Home key.
Note the X Y and Z positions on a paper.


Click on General Tab.
Select the shadow if needed and make the post Terrain Object.



Click on Milepost/Speed limit Tab.
Set speed for Passenger and enter the Speed limit.
Click the OK button.


Press F2 Key or click on the Select Object Tool to be in select mode.
Select again the berm to place the other sign.


Press the More button of the Placement window to select the freight speed sign.
Click on the speed sign with an F on the base (the one with the speed for the freight)
Press OK  when selected.


Press the F5 key again or click on the Place Object Tool.
Press the left mouse near the post ident losange already placed to place the second speed (Note: you must be on the track)



Click on the Right mouse button. It will open this window.
Enter the X Y and Z positions noted before. Don't forget the minus sign if needed.


When the new positions are entered, Click the OK button.


Click on General Tab.
Make the sign Terrain Object.



Click on General Tab.
Set speed for Freight and enter the Speed limit.
Click the OK button.



The two speeds numbers are now at the same position.

If you have other sign (The LRC speed sign), repeat the preceding sequences.

Let's go to an horizontal View for the final touch.
Press F2 Key or click on the Select Object Tool to be in select mode.
Note: If you didn't select another mode, you have the last speed already selected.
With the Ctrl Key holded pressed, left click on the other speed post.


You now have the two speeds selected.


As you can see, the post is a little bit under the berm.
Press the F3 key or click on the Move Object Tool.
You can now use the Up and Down arrow on the numeric pad to raise the post.


Press the F4 key or click on the Rotate Object Tool.
Press the Left or Right arrow in the numeric pad to rotate the speeds posts until the borders line of the sign seems continuous.


Press F2 Key or click on the Select Object Tool to be in select mode.
Click anywhere else to deselect them.
This is the Final Result.
